How To Play Blackjack

Blackjack is a casino game, played with cards. Its rules are very simple. The purpose of this game is to accumulate cards keeping total points as close to 21 as possible, without having more than 21. Cards are worth their numbers, such as a 9 of any suite is worth 9, whereas face cards (Jacks, Queens and Kings) count as 10, aces are either 1 or 11. So a jack and an 8 equal 18. It is usually played with 1, 2, 4, 6 or 8 decks of cards.

If a player ties with the house, it is called A Push. A 10 (Blackjack) and an ace on the first 2 cards is considered an automatic victory. The goal is to beat the dealer with no Busting. Busting is done when your cards are worth more than 21 points. Then you lose. Shuffling machines are used by some casinos too. In single and double deck games a dealer deals, whereas in multi-deck mode, cards are dealt in a wooden box called a shoe.

Players put wagers before receiving their cards. Up to 6 players are allowed in one table. Cards are dealt with their faces up, and the players are allowed to see their hands afterwards. The dealer gets one card face up, one face down. After all the cards are dealt, players can take more cards until they bust, or can stay. When everyone is done, the dealer turns the face down card. Then whoever is closer to 21 wins. Since players must take action first, if they bust they lose whether or not the dealer busts.

A Hard hand is a condition when a player doesn’t have any ace. A Soft hand is when s/he has an ace. If s/he draws another card, and if counting the ace s/he has puts her/him in a position to have more than 21, then tit is a hard hand because the ace is then counted 11, since that would bust him/her.

If a player gets exactly 21 in the first deal, s/he wins regardless of what the dealer has. This is known as Blackjack. Rule states that the dealer must draw if he gets less than or equal to 16, otherwise he must stay.

There are many betting options such as insurance, surrender, early surrender, late surrender, double down, even money, split hand, short hand etc. Details on these betting could be found on booklets with blackjack rules and on the internet.
